When this all started it was about the coyotes, now look at the predators we are looking to stop from being present in our neighborhood. Thank goodness for all the volunteers.  Let's keep our eyes and ears open and look for suspicious or non-regular activities to protect our families, friends, neighbors and homes. Make an effort to meet your neighbors this will strengthen Rossmoor.  The criminals are watching us and taking note of our habits.  If we know our neighbor habits as well as the criminals do, we will become better at seeing and reporting criminal activity before it happens. Thanks for all you do to help the community.

Re Attempted Child Abduction Comments:

Heads up Everybody,
Last night detectives were on our street looking for clues and witnesses.  They
informed us of an attempted child abduction eight doors up on our street and ask
for helping finding the man responsible.  Mike talked to them and related this
to me.

Here is what happened:

There was an attempted child abduction on my street (12121 Silver Fox Rd.)  at
6:20pm last night.  A  over weight 6'3  black male in his mid to late 20's  with
severe acne approached a small child and her grandmother.  He walked up and said
"did you know someone is steeling babies in the neighborhood?"  He then tried to
grab the child and run.  The grandmother also grabbed the child.  The
grandmother started fighting and screaming for help.  He appeared frightened and
ran down the block toward Bostonian (right by my house).  We don't know where he
went from there.

We did see something that may or may not be related but was previously unknown
to detectives.  They will check that lead.  Anybody in the area at that time who
might have seen this person or anything suspicious should contact the Sheriff
Dept.

Let's all keep our eyes open not just for this guy but anybody who would harm a
child…or even an adult!

Hi Rebecca,

1)  It's been a long time since I wrote you.

2)  The last time was the props that directly affected Rossmoor and the death penalty.

3)  I did see a big black guy walking on the corner of Salmon Drive (my street) and Blume Drive yesterday around 6:30 p.m. and there was a police car onto him; he was walking on foot and by himself.  This sounds like the same guy.

4)  I was always against developing the shopping centers on Seal Beach Blvd. -- I truly believe it has been a huge impact affecting Rossmoor with more crime.

Hi,

This was a forward from a friend of mine regarding what happened in Rossmoor last week regarding the attempted abduction / attack.  This originated from my friend.  FYI.  Please omit her name if you forward this to your email list.  Thanks.

I know some of you have seen info about a woman being robbed in Rossmoor last Friday.  There was talk of a possible child abduction, etc.

I just got a call from the woman.  I know her and used to work with her.  IT IS TRUE.   Here are the details because he is still at large and she thinks she  has  seen him twice in Rossmoor and in Los Al.  The Police departments are trying to find him.

  • Last Friday at 5:00 pm. on Silver Fox near Rush Park, she was walking in a stroller her 4 month old Granddaughter.
  • A Black Male, about 6'2, 200 Lbs, dressed in Black, and a TON of Acne, came up behind her, yelled obscenities at her and said, " GIVE ME YOUR BABY."
  • He grabbed her arm, she shielded the baby, he demanded her jewelry  and ran away.
  • She screamed bloody murder but no one came out
  • They think it was the same male who tried to accost a girl at Starbucks, last week.  (?) did not hear of that.
We need to call the sheriff if we see this man - or anyone who fits the description.  Call the OC Sheriff.
Here is the Number to call.  Put it in your contacts so you can call it if in the car.  714-288-6740.
Forward on to other people in other schools across Rossmoor, so people can be alert.

SHERIFF RESPONSE Re ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING TO LOS ALAMITOS PATCH:

In making an report to the O.C. Sheriff Department particularly one creating high emotional stress levels, I would contact a friend, neighbor or relative as your second witness in making your report.  If given time before coming to your home, write out everything that you can remember such as physical descriptions, ethnic background, age, color of skin, hair, tattos, height, weight, clothing they were wearing, etc. You will be surprised as to how much information you have retained once you start writing your facts of observation.  Get the Officer's Badge Number, Name and Log Number to their report.  Make sure your witness' info is provided on your own Statement Of Facts that you give to the Officer which would include their name and phone numbers on your printed Statement Of Facts Sheet.  If this matter warrants investigation, the investigating officer will have the information how to get hold of you or your neighbor.

We had an incident occur at our home were we had to inform the OCSD of the legal definition of a trespasser, showed video of the trespasser, allowed the officer to interview to independent computer repair personnel who were at our home and witnessed the trespass on our premises.

Hey, we are all human and through educating those who protect us, it is a step up in education and the power of their enforcement liabilities.  Again, if you are at the initial stage of working with a dispatcher is uncooperative then ask to speak to their Supervisor.  They should immediately transfer the call to the Dispatch Supervisor.

REPORTED LOST DOG

Hi Rebecca,

I just got a call from the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.  They have her and found me because of the email blast you sent out. Apparently they have our home number instead of my cell on file and we've been out of our house because of water damage for months now.  So they wouldn't of been able to contact us if it wasn't for the email you sent out!

Thank you so much! You don't know what it means to us!

LOOSE DOGS AT ROSSMOOR'S PARKS:
Dog was waiting for me to leave my car

FROM RPMT MEMBER: Last month, my family had to leave Rush Park because two guys were letting their full size Dobermans run free, no leashes... Not sure if the police are on top of this!

Dear Ms. Montana (RCSD):

This was posted on our facebook website.  Could we ask that your department to take all necessary actions for the protection of Rossmoor Residents will visiting Rossmoor Parks?

We understand that normally occurs after your office is closed and on weekends.  However, contacting the Director of O.C. Animal Care, Ryan Drabek at email occr.ocgov.com, they have been very cooperative in the past with securing the safety of Rossmoor Residents.  In addition, the Orange County Sheriff Department has also assisted in enforcing the Orange County Dog Leash Code.

Sincerely,

Rossmoor Predator Management Team

David & Rebecca Lara

RCSD RESPONSE:

I will contact the O.C. Sheriff’s Dept. to get more information about their enforcement policies regarding this issue, and get back to you.

Dear Director Drabek (O.C. ANIMAL CARE)

As reflected in the below email by a team member we have once again, Rossmoor Residents insisting on allowing their dogs off leash and in violation of the Dog Leash Law Code.  This is a posting on our website from a family who was subjected to an attack on their cat by a off leash dog that came onto their property:

This morning a dog broke free from their owner's leash (a petite lady walking two large dogs!) and attacked our cat on our front lawn. Our cat returned after a couple hours, traumatized along with my kids who were very upset! While out looking for our pet, I saw more than one person walking their dog with no leashes... Why are neighbors being so thoughtless and disregarding the leash laws?"

As you are aware, we have had dogs killed by the negligence of these offenders as well as placing residents at risk and their children.  Would you please start patrolling especially on weekends when the violators are most active?

A year ago, when your trucks were patrolling Rossmoor, you were very effective in encouraging violators to leash their off leashed dogs.

Thank you for your cooperation.  Your department's overall work has attributed to Rossmoor's safety.

Sincerely,

ROSSMOOR PREDATOR MANAGEMENT TEAM

Thanks! We’ll be patrolling.

BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM CALTRANS!

(Rossmoor, 3/25/2013) Zombie Invasion, The Walking Dead by Dave Lara:

Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang. It’s 6:00 in the morning and for the last 18 hours the sounds of a teenager bouncing a basketball on our roof.

Unfortunately, it’s not a teenager, it’s CalTrans and their construction at the 405/605 Freeways. For the past year, during the day and night there has been the construction noise of trucks backing up, loads being dropped and drills/saws being used. But now they have added an additional item of torture.

Re Donations to Animal Charities:
Hey guys, enjoy yourselves on your two week break.  This issue has been on my radar for a long time and it really  upsets me.  I am not sure why it never dawned on me to share it with you guys since we are all animal lovers.  There is a lot of information in regards to what a "sham" PETA and HSUS are but the link below is one good example.  They make extremely emotional commercials and are wonderful at pulling at the heart strings to gain donations.  The truth is that they are making tons of money and doing very little to help the animals they feature in their commercials.  My message would be support your local shelter instead....

Thanks, Dan.

TO RHA BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

A RPMT Member requesting if this could be installed along the water channels in Rossmoor.  The below would not allow coyotes to jump onto an existing water control channel fence, raise and if any attempts were made the animal would roll off and be returned back into the ground.  Previously, Milt Houghton & Henry Taboada met with O.C. Water Control Management.  When this issue was raised, they informed us they would assist in obtaining the permit.  Could you advise us if this could be approved by the RHA for the safety of Rossmoor's Children and Pets?  We will await your response for our next newsletter.  Kindly, please respond in writing for publication.

A Personal Note From Rebecca

Let me begin with I love all the members of RPMT and we have such a great circle of friends and neighbors out there.  Dave & I never could have imagined how we have evolved.  Health issues did arise for both Dave & I have come with within the last year for Dave and within the last 2 weeks for me.  As we do everything together, it turns out we are dealing with the big "C" word.  Dave is mended very well and goes on long walks, gym, etc.  I just got home from the hospital on Saturday.

I am so happy to be home around Dave, our dogs and non-hospital food.  They made the mistake of giving me a narcotic sleeping pill which I didn't ask for and apparently I had to be awoken by 3 nurses screaming in my sleep.  That will teach them!

On the positive side, both Dave & I feel we have come away with a lot of information about hospitals, how to deal with them, things to do before and after, etc.  Our memories on "General Hospital" issues will begin along with even pictures!
